A meeting in Portugal at an international music camp dedicated to traditional music gave birth to this strange duo, dedicated to the alliance of techno trance and squeezebox. Matthieu Souchet (drums, machine) and Raphaël Decoster (diatonic accordion) practise the subtle art of electro-trad and post-modern ball pop, hypnotic, pure and festive dance, abstract repetitions of electronics and minimalist dance hall music. With their feet planted and their heads down, Turfu take us on a musical journey into the future in reverse – intoxicating and passionately human.

BIOGRAPHY
> TURFU (France)
Matthieu Souchet (drums, machines, synthesizers) and Raphaël Decoster (diatonic accordion) met in 2014, in Portugal, at a musicians’ camp called Ethno that takes place all over the world. Everyone brings along traditional pieces from their own country to build up a repertoire and play it over several days in concert. They finally found themselves in residence in Belgium in 2017 and at the Andancas festival in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Portugal, for their first concert. After an EP in 2019 (Espace Fraicheur) followed by a debut album (Astrale Nouba) in 2021 and its remix version Chevauchée Cosmique (Astrale Nouba Remixes) (2022), they are helping to organise a festival around deviant traditional music, Teknibal, to be held in Le Mans in 2022. In 2024, Turfu released their album Sous rosée, containing several duets with singer Yolande Bashing, from the electro-pop scene in Lille, with whom they had already produced the single Seul (2024). They continue to tour Europe, and have already made a stop in Rennes for the Grand Soufflet festival in 2023.
