Live jukebox love songs for one singer and one audience member

A little two-metre caravan housing a real human jukebox for one singer and one spectator; the choice of a title from sixteen love songs from the popular repertoire of the 20th century, sung live by musician and activist Xavier Machault… An improbable and very moving singing tête-à-tête, Only you breathes life, breath and honour back into this major art of song too often left by the wayside. A unique experience suspended at odds with contemporary gigantism and consumerism. And above all, a tender moment of musical wonder!

> COMPAGNIE LE GRILLE-PAIN / XAVIER MACHAULT (France)

Created in March 2017 in Grenoble, the Le Grille-Pain company aims to bring contemporary song projects written, imagined and performed by Xavier Machault. The structure has been designed to combine artistic creation with cultural activities for amateurs and schoolchildren. It leads the projects and shows Pelouse (post-song trio with Quentin Biardeau and Martin Debisschop), the immersive musical reading for fifty spectators on deckchairs Poésie couchée (with Xavier Machault on vocals and Morgane Carnet on saxophone), L’Incendie, a reinterpretation of the second album by the duo Brigitte Fontaine and Areski Belkacem (1974) (with Xavier Machault on vocals and Martin Debisschop on bass, guitar and bass drum) and Only you. Since 2019, Le Grille-Pain has been part of the Grand Collectif, bringing together five artistic teams to develop a neighbourhood cultural project in the former working-class housing estate of L’Abbaye in Grenoble.
