Musical story  • From the age of 8
An epic open-air musical tale

After Vierges Maudites (2022), writer and director Inès Cassigneul returns to the festival with a new creation: an epic fable that conjures both Harry Potter and the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Drawing equally on the world of fan fiction and on the tradition of cantastoria — storytelling through the combination of music and images — its beautiful open-book scenography blends the music of Félix Masson with the illustrations of Sammy Stein in a world of magic and humour whose spellbinding force will drift beneath the trees of the Théâtre de Verdure.

BIOGRAPHY

> INÈS CASSIGNEUL / COMPAGNIE SENTIMENTALE FOULE (FR)

Born in 1991, Inès Cassigneul trained at the Conservatoire in Toulouse and then at the École supérieure de théâtre de Bordeaux (2010–2013). Since 2016, she has pursued her path as a writer-performer as artistic director of the Rennes-based company Sentimentale Foule, working in both writing and directing. She revisited the Arthurian legend of Elaine of Astolat in La carte d’Elaine and Vierges maudites, two storytelling performances linked to the creation of two monumental textile tapestries: La Tapisserie du Jeu de l’oie and La broderie de la conquête.  In 2022, she created L’Istouere couzûe, a light form in Gallo and French based on a tale by Jeanne Malivel. In 2023, her verse tale La Grande boueuse set out to meet the earthworm spirits of Mississippi, supported by a scenography made of raw earth. As an actress and artistic collaborator, she has taken part in productions by Collectif les Possédés, Compagnie La Mort est dans la boîte, Compagnie Dromosphère, Simon Gauchet, Dominique Roodthooft and writer Cécile Cayrel.
