Smashed 2
Gandini Juggling
(United Kingdom)
Choreographed virtuoso juggling for 7 women, 2 men, 7 watermelons and 80 oranges
For all ages

After taking the Thabor theatre by storm in 2019 with collective, trashy and skilled juggling of eighty apples and four sets of dishes, the Londoners are back for Smashed 2, where seven female jugglers take revenge on the ordinary chauvinism of the other two jugglers. With around eighty oranges and seven watermelons, Sean Gandini and Kati Ylä-Hokkala pursue their incredible hybrid and jubilant work inspired by Pina Bausch, theatre, choreography, British burlesque humour and high-flying circus prowess in a fierce breath of fresh air and cathartic joy.

BIOGRAPHY

> GANDINI JUGGLING (United Kingdom)

Formed in 1992 in London by Kati Yla-Hokkala and Sean Gandini, and initially called the Gandini Juggling Project, this British new circus company explores the art of juggling in all its facets. London’s Millennium celebrations and productions at the London International Mime Festival catapulted the company onto the international stage, leading to relationships and work with artists from a range of disciplines, such as choreographers Mike Day and Gill Clarke. Following the success of Glow (2008), Director’s Cut (2009), Smashed (2010), Gibbon (by Christopher Patfield and Jose Triguero), Life (2015, in homage to the choreographer Merce Cunningham), 4×4 Ephemeral Architectures (2020, a tribute to choreographer Alexander Whitley), Rollercoaster (2022) and The game we play (2023), Sean Gandini and Kati Ylä-Hokkala are currently working on Heka, a show where juggling meets magic. Over the past twenty years, Gandini Juggling has created more than thirty shows and performed over four thousand times in more than forty countries.
