Errance en Syllogomanie
Théâtre Dromesko
(France)
Artistic and theatrical walk with objects and living pictures (tableaux vivants)
From the age of 12
syllogomania (def) from the ancient Greek: súllogos (accumulation): compulsive and excessive accumulation of possessions, regardless of their utility or value. Known in English as compulsive hoarding.

This new and last production from the renowned Théâtre Dromesko, subtitled “Objects of Desire” looks a lot like a close-up view of the artistic world of Lily Dromesko. As the spectator wanders through a strange cabinet of baroque and dreamlike curiosities, they immerse themselves in an accumulation of neglected (hoarded) objects that work together to form a tableau vivant. They will see the ghosts of Chagall, Dalí, James Ensor and old artistic creations from the company, memories and emotions, installations, performances, musical improvisations and more.

From their camp in Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande and the production of La Baraque, cantine musicale (2005), they have of course never been very far from Les Tombées de la Nuit. We’ve been loving the dreamlike and whirling world of Dromesko for thirty years. With their carnival huts, fabulous animals, mythical characters, troupe of acrobats, and unbridled funny and nostalgic approach to artistic creation, they have paved the way for many other artists from the New Theatre movement. Today, by turning the tables on a negative disorder, compulsive hoarding, the couple celebrates Lily’s mania for accumulating broken and forgotten objects, in a kind of baroque and carnivalesque artistic recycling project that brings them back to the land of the living.

“What if all these neglected objects came together in a hodgepodge of weirdness?” asks Lily. “What if people combined their own memories with those of objects by magnifying them in a dreamlike world where they become one?”

In this poetic walk in the company of actors, dancers and musicians, the objects become comically serious or seriously comical tableaux vivants. All you have to do is let yourself glide from surprise to emotion, in this dream world full of devilishly human characters, fabulous beasts, images of wild beauty, and unusual installations. It’s a new and wonderful escape into the magic of Dromesko’s theatre, which returns to enchant our souls and our minds.

BIOGRAPHY

> THÉÂTRE DROMESKO (France)

In 1990, after creating the Aligre and Zingaro circuses with other colleagues, Igor and his wife Lily invented “La Volière Dromesko”, which led to the birth of their company. It would be the first production in a series of around ten travelling shows built around an artistic base of inventing spaces for playing and performing, animals, music and travelling. These include La volière, La Baraque, Les voiles écarlates, Le quai des oubliés, Arrêtez le monde je voudrais descendre, Margot, L’utopie fatigue les escargots, Regards premiers, and their three shows that are still touring, Le jour du grand jour (2014), Le dur désir de durer (2017), and Errance en Syllogomanie (2021). In aviaries or huts, these tours are all stages in the life of Igor and Lily’s nomadic theatre, in this colourful, generous world, full of poetry and freedom, with both feet planted in reality and their hearts in the stars. Théâtre Dromesko has been camped at La Ferme du Haut Bois, in Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande, near Rennes, since 1998.
