Block Parties, neighbourhood parties with music and Afro-American soul food, played a key role in American hip-hop culture in the 1970s. For its tenth edition, the Dooinit Festival is giving the people of Rennes the opportunity to get together at Parc des Hautes-Ourmes for a barbecue, children’s games, graffiti workshops and Double Dutch (a jump rope game that developed in the USA at a similar time to block parties). Musical entertainment is provided by DJs from Belgium-based SupAfly Collective. Vaneeshua, Young Mocro, Fatoosan and MikiGold, coming from Ghent and Brussels, have come together around their shared love of hip-hop. They will get us dancing with their selection of groove, soul, funk and beats, just like they do every week on their SupAfly Radio Show.
