Light and monumental aerial acrobatics
For everyone
Chloé Moglia continues her work on aerial suspension, deploying five trapeze artists and a musician along a triple-loop steel rope spiral that is 6.5 metres high and 18 metres long, as they create games and connections against the backdrop of the skies that belong to us all. The light and monumental structure and sculpture of La Spire is taken over by these “suspended” women who carry the “concealed springs of a silent and unostentatious power”.

The rising form of this spiral provides a volume perfect for creating dreams and changing perspectives on the surrounding space. The arrival of the trapeze artists turns it into a whole new world, a living space where precise gestures, movements and breathing determine what is possible. These women are put to the test in this space of suspense and suspension, as they rise, descend and touch down. They demonstrate a force, power, tenacity and determination which push the limits of performance and our imaginations, opening up more than just an impressive technical performance, but also questions about the concealed springs of this invisible power that Chloé Moglia invites us to uncover.

La Spire is both spectacular and fluid, designed to occupy the space through a set of stages involving a series of revelations unveiled through this multi-layer work. Chloé Moglia succeeds in uncovering a kind of harmonisation. “After all, the art of weaving, the ultimate linear artform, is women’s work,” she states. This work is also a collection of lines, a cyclical moment that plays with gravity and grace. La Spire is a beautiful suspended choreography and a monumental, fragile, collective and intimate experience.

BIOGRAPHY

Chloé Moglia was born in 1978, and trained as a trapeze artist at the French national school of circus arts in Rosny-sous-Bois (ENACR), and then at the National centre for circus arts in Châlons-en-Champagne (CNAC), before training in martial arts. She founded Compagnie Moglice-Von Verx with Mélissa Von Vépy in the Languedoc-Roussillon region (South of France), and produced several aerial shows which won the SACD prize for circus arts in 2007. In 2009, she set up her new organisation, Rhizome, in Brittany, and created the solo shows Nimbus (2007), Rhizikon (2009), Opus Corpus (2012) and Horizon (2013), as well as a duo with Olivia Rosenthal (Le Vertige, 2012) and a number of other performances. She created Aléas (2013) for a sextet, and then directed twenty students of ENACR for Infinitudes (2014), before returning to aerial shows with three women in Ose (2016). Since 2012, she has been working with the choreographer Stéphanie Aubin (Etonnistes #2). Aerial performances and martial arts are the foundation of Chloé Moglia’s work.
