Overview of emerging Breton projects

The Les Zef & Mer encounters are back at the Salle de la Cité to provide a platform, a springboard and a sounding board for innovative Breton bands who take risks and make creative bets. As every year, the guest artists are often young, steeped in tradition but also resolutely open to other influences and other musical styles. For Les Zef & Mer, it’s also a question of convincing professionals in the entertainment industry to take advantage of these new features and pass them on to a wider audience. The programme for this 2026 edition includes:

EMEZI (“She says” in Breton) is Perynn Bleunven and Elise Desbordes and their burning passion for self-expression in their mother tongue. Inspired by the likes of Beyoncé, Jacob Collier and Ariana Grande, they tell us about their joys, their anger and their femininity, all set to irresistibly groovy pop, hip-hop and RnB sounds.

Fred Guichen and Jean-Pierre Riou, two long-time friends – one from the band Ar Re Yaouank and the other from Red Cardell – reunite to share their musical energy and affirm the organic instrumental link between compositions and Scottish, Irish and Breton traditions, between rock, pop and blues.

Kaolila is an astonishing sound, rough and vibrant, like a sensitive rock ballad. With three bright Breton voices, unbridled amplifiers and furious percussion, Kaolila have imposed a new style and a rich, punk-energy music with lyrics about women!

Mouk embodies the rugged elegance of a quartet born in a port at the end of the world, ears pricked towards distant lands. Electric folk-rock with deep roots in the heath, sincerely proclaiming that the blues is an essential part of the human condition, no matter where you come from.

Nozicaä is a trio showcasing a repertoire where tradition and innovation come together harmoniously. They draw their inspiration from traditional dance music, adding their own original compositions.

Typhaine Corre and Tangi Le Gall-Carré, a duo rooted in the Breton language, draw their inspiration from the sensitive texts of poet Naig Rozmor and writer Herve ar Gall. Accompanied by accordion and double bass, their songs focus on emancipation and women’s rights.

Baz-Valan • Achille Grimaud is a storyteller from Brittany with a cross-cutting and atypical artistic approach. His taste for experimentation has led him to many fruitful collaborations in a wide range of aesthetic fields. Achille will be presenting extracts from the tales of Anatole Le Braz.
