Musician, magnetic performer, inspired radio artist and DJ, Gérald Arev Kurdian develops a hybrid practice at the crossroads of disciplines. Under the name Hot Bodies, notably through the cycles Hot Bodies of the Future and The Transition Pieces, they have reconciled the intimacy of folk with the urgency of the dancefloor in performances combining live music, video art and autofiction. In Rennes, in February, Gérald Kurdian composed the original music for Massimo Fusco’s Bal Magnétique, before closing the evening with a devilishly good DJ set. So it only makes sense for them to sweep us away once again on their journey.

A Franco-American musician, performer, DJ and radio artist, Gérald Arev Kurdian studied visual arts at ENSAPC in Cergy before joining the performance and contemporary dance programme at the Centre Chorégraphique National in Montpellier. Since 2007, Gérald Arev Kurdian has collaborated with France Culture’s Atelier de Création Radiophonique, for which they compose sound pieces. Under the name Hot Bodies, they released their first album, This Is the Hello Monster! (2010) and have since hosted Hot Bodies Club nights and Hot Bodies Choirs. Since 2017, they have developed cycles of performative and musical research, including Hot Bodies of the Future, a project exploring alternative forms of sexuality and queer micropolitics through performance and music. The Transition Pieces — a project that reconciles the intimacy of folk with the urgency of the dancefloor, and includes the EP Digital Fairy-Folk Songs (2026) — brings together all of their experience across indie, experimental and club scenes, while also reflecting their search for identity, their sexuality and their transformations.
